NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND FAVORITE TEACHER ESSAY CONTEST
Each year the Santa Fe Trail Republican Women's Club sponsors the "No Child
Left Behind Favorite Teacher Essay Contest". The essays are submitted to
the Missouri Federation of Republican Women and judged in two categories:
Kindergarten through 4th grade, and 5th-8th grade. The winning teacher from
each category receives a $200 cash prize and advances to the national
competition.
Essay winners and 1st, 2nd and 3rd runners-up, along with
their teachers, are recognized at Legislative Day in Jefferson City in
March. This contest is open to all children in the appropriate age groups
in private and public schools. It does not have to be sponsored or
sanctioned by a particular school - anyone can submit an essay and
individual submissions are encouraged.
Last year, Mikala Sapp of Tri-City Christian School was the 3rd runner-up
for her age group. Mikala and her teacher, Sandy Scroggins, were recognized
on the floors of the House and Senate, met with Representative Brian Pratt
and Senator Matt Bartle, and received a tour of the Capital. Mikala and
Mrs. Scroggins were also featured in the Examiner and Kansas City Star (yes,
you read it right - a Republican-sponsored program featured in the Star!).
The essay should be 150 words or less about the student's favorite teacher
and must be submitted by January 25. For more information, contact Joy
Freeland at 478-2449 or timandjoy.mo@netzero.net.
Please pass this
