A few people have asked if I am endorsing anyone for mayor. =A0So here goes=
. =A0(If you do not agree, then let us just agree to talk about basketball =
for the next month.)
Over the last four years I have gotten to know the mayor and his wife Glori=
a pretty well. =A0They have, of course, been the victim of the most relentl=
ess media smear campaign since the assault on Phill Kline (which is still n=
ot over).
Has the Mayor been perfect? =A0He will be the first to tell you otherwise. =
=A0He has had to learn how to lead the preening group of airheads who compr=
ise the City Council, and that has not been easy. =A0He has had to do this =
while the=A0Star=A0was urging said airheads on to mutiny or something like =
it.
The law suit against Gloria was a crock, the kind of thing all but the most=
 pathetically PC risk every time they show up for work, and she was volunte=
ering.
At a recent debate at the Hispanic Chamber, all the candidates who answered=
 the questions chastised Funkhouser for daring to put a conservative activi=
st (a 73 year-old female Minuteman) on the Parks Board. =A0The mayor refuse=
d to apologize before an audience that was clamoring for one. =A0This appoi=
ntment, by the way, was what cost him any support he had at the=A0Star.
As a resident of KCMO, I most appreciate Funk's financial prudence. =A0Ther=
e are few cities in as good shape financially despite the excesses of the B=
arnes' years, and the reserves are in better shape than they have been in t=
he last ten years.
Also, too, the best snow removal I have seen since I have lived here.
Funkhouser is an independent in a field of Democrats, most of them liberal.=
 =A0Sly James, who may well survive the primary with Funk, is not exactly t=
he "small businessman" he portrays himself to be unless "personal injury at=
torney" is a subset of that.
Funk is also good on cops/ safety and getting better. =A0He has learned a l=
ot in the last four years and, unlike most politicos, wants to keep learnin=
g.
Feel free to disagree, but I have seen enough up close to feel confident in=
 my opinion. =A0
